See-A-Doctor (in this policy, “SAD”), recognizes the importance of confidentiality and the protection of personal information. This privacy policy explains how we use and protect the personal information we hold, whether it relates to our patients, doctors, potential doctors, its staff, consultants and third party service providers in connection with our business and has been developed to comply with South African laws.

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to the homepages of our websites or sending you an email notification). We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy whenever you interact with us to stay informed about our information practices and the ways you can help protect your privacy.

Personal information means information about an identifiable individual or information that permits an individual to be identified. It does not include business contact information, such as name, title, business address and business telephone number when used for business communications.

We only collect personal information as required to meet the purposes that we have identified and do not indiscriminately collect or retain personal information. We disclose potentially personally-identifying information only to those of our employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that:

  • need to know that information in order to process it on our behalf or to provide services available at our websites, and
  • that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country;

SAD typically collects personal information that is voluntarily provided by the individual in question. Where the purpose for the collection of personal information is unclear, you can ask the SAD representative with whom you are dealing with to provide an explanation of the purpose for the data collection.

Our reason for collecting personal information about medical practitioners, patients, parents, staff and consultants is to establish and maintain our contractual or other business relationship with that individual.

By using our websites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. We will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to our employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, we disclose potentially personally-identifying information only when required to do so by law, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of SAD, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of the Site and have supplied your email address, we may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with us and our products and we expect to keep this type of email to a minimum. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. We take all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying information.

The purpose for collecting personal information about doctors and patients is primarily to facilitate the provision of non-emergency medical consultation services online, including to allow patients to quickly and easily assess the professional and educational background of doctors, as well as allowing us to communicate effectively with our doctors, patients and parents and to maintain mailing lists. We may also use your personal information to:

  • Respond to your comments, questions and requests and provide customer service;
  • Communicate with you about services, offers and promotions and provide news and information we think will be of interest to you;

  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage and activities;
  • Link or combine with information we get from others to help understand your needs and provide you with better service; and
  • Carry out any other purpose for which the information was collected.

Such a request, and your consent to such request may be given only in writing. In some cases, consent can be implied through an individual relationship or conduct with us, depending on the sensitivity of the information.

  • with consultants and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf, including our legal advisors;

  • We may also share aggregated or de-identified information, which cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

SAD may use third party service providers from time to time to carry out certain functions for us such as printing, storage or document scanning. Where we use such outside service providers, we require those third parties to protect personal information in the same manner in which we protect it and to not use or disclose it for any purposes except as directed by SAD.
